Laboratory of Learning Technology and Educational Engineering

The Laboratory of Learning Technology and Educational Engineering (LTEE), is a Research and Development lab, founded in 2000 (FEK 180/09.08.2000) and located in A4, Building of 7th March, Avenue Democratias 1, Rhodes.
LTEE laboratory members produce academic research in the fields of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in Education, Mathematics Education, Science Education, as well as in the wider field of Educational Engineering. The corresponding research concern a variety of: (i) age-groups and roles of human agents, (ii) learning situations and (iii) educational entities. It focuses to the following research dimensions: Interdisciplinarity, Complexity and Systemic Approach in Education, Mathematics Education, Technology-Enhanced Learning systems, STEAM dimensions in Education, Computational Thinking, Didactics of ICTs, Learning Analytics.
LTEE lab members offer courses in pre-graduate, post-graduate and PhD programs of studies. They also educate teachers and educational leaders in continuous professional development level.

Laboratory of Research on Practical Philosophy (L.R.P.Ph.)

L.R.P.A.Ph. by treating and nurturing philosophical research as a lasting movement, it develops a highly extrovert, innovative and interactive physiognomy, activates and crosses within its boundaries, by opening meeting paths, a large number of professors and researchers in philosophy from many countries (France, Portugal, Mexico, Cyprus, Brazil, Austria, Canada, Israel, Belgium, America, Italy, Germany, Colombia, Argentina, Greece). Thus a particular emphasis on intercultural cooperation and care (as an appearance of philosophical research and practice itself) is gradually developed. This option is reflected in an extended and complex map of actions with an international character. Main purpose of the L.R.P.A.Ph (in the basis of which is shaped Laboratory’s particular culture) is the research about ways & forms possibly under which practical philosophy possibly appears, in parallel with the emergence, reconstruction, weaving, performance of forms of philosophical thinking and acting in public places as it meets the plural environments of education & arts, as the passage from theory to its realizations is critically, hermeneutically and dialogically crossed leading philosophical methodology, analysis and understanding to the threshold and crossroads of crucial and complex issues at stake nowadays: ethical, anthropological, political, esthetical-artistic etc.

Laboratory of Children’s Book, Discourse and Theatre Game

The laboratory promotes research on culture and the art of speech, with emphasis on theatre, children’s and youth’s neo-Hellenic literature. Cultivated subjects include the theatre education and pedagogy, the study of the children’s book, the reading theories, and the interpretation of literary texts, as well as the development of original pedagogical material covering the whole spectrum of these arts. Also covered are the educational and teaching requirements of the department’s scientific field of “Literature, Language and Culture”, as well as the post graduate program “Children’s Book and Pedagogical Material”. Methods are being developed to educate students and teachers, in order to link learning with the local community of Rhodes. The activities of the laboratory include the organization of lectures, seminars and scientific congresses, exchanges with scholars and researchers of related cognitive subjects, dialogue with writers and artists in the field of literature and theatre, creation of theatre analogues and reading clubs, as well as the organization of competitions on a Panhellenic level.

Laboratory of Social and Educational Research

The Laboratory of Educational and Social Research belongs to the Sector of Sociology, Economics, Education Policy and Gender Studies of the Department of Preschool Education and Educational Design. It was founded in 2000 by Presidential Decree (P.D. 198/2000 ) and is located on the 1st floor of the «7th of March» Building of the School of Humanities Campus of the University of the Aegean (1 Demokratias Avenue, Rhodes, 85132). Its mission includes:
• Support of teaching and research activities at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the Department, in the scientific fields covered by the relevant departmental Sector.
• Cooperation with research centres and academic institutions, both Greek and foreign, whose scientific objectives relate to those of the Laboratory.
• Organization of lectures, conferences, symposia, seminars and other scientific events, as well as the publication of scientific papers, books, etc., and the invitation of Greek and foreign widely acclaimed scientists.
• The provision of services to individuals and legal entities, as prescribed in the Presidential Decree 159/1984 (A’ 53).

 

Laboratory of Educational & Psychological Research and  their Applications

The Laboratory of «Educational and Psychological Research and their Applications» covers educational and research needs in the subject areas:  Applications of Methods and Techniques in Educational Research, Pedagogical, Psychological, Anthropological, Philosophical and Historical Dimensions of Education, Educational Interaction factors, Methodological and Didactic Approaches to the Educational Process, Critical and Creative Approach to Teaching and Learning, Methods of acquiring, systemizing, arranging in a functional way, evaluating,  and using Pedagogical Material, Comparative, Historical evolution of Educational Systems, Curricula, The Relationship between Education and Politics, Teacher Education, Adult Education, Communication, Intercultural Education, Distance Learning, Evaluation in Education, Media Pedagogy, Special Education, Psychometrics, Developmental Psychology, School Psychology, Psychopathology, Clinical Psychology, Pedagogical Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Experimental Analysis of Behavior, Microteaching. The main purpose of this laboratory is to collect, analyze and utilize research data that contribute to the understanding and improvement of the educational process.

Laboratory of Applied Research for Environmental Education

The aim of the laboratory is to conduct research studies in the scientific field of Environmental Education and train teachers and educators who implement environmental education programs. It aims at developing public understanding and awareness of environmental education and sustainable development as well as  creating and providing teaching end educational material for Environmental Education. The objectives of the laboratory also include the implementation of pilot educational interventions in school class related to research and educational activities in the field of environmental education. In addition, this laboratory  supports teachers who implement environmental and sustainable development programs, conducts research in information technology, communication and mass media and designs activities related to environmental education. It also develops and evaluates specialized environmental programs using technology of information and communication, organizes systematically research for enhancing students’ training and education as well as promoting environmental education and research. Moreover,  it enhances teachers’ role as researchers and educators.

 

Laboratory of Experimental Psychology, Psychometric Research and Clinical Applications

The aim of the laboratory is to cover the educational and research needs in the following fields: Special Education, Psychometrics, Developmental Psychology, School Psychology, Psychopathology, Clinical Psychology, Pedagogical Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Creative Learning, Psychological Assessment of Children’s Drawing, Projective Personality Tests. It systematically organizes research for enhancing the training and education of the undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Department and PhD candidates. It also conducts research and studies in the related scientific areas.
In addition, the teaching staff of the laboratory designs and provides teaching and educational material for psychology and its related fields. The implementation of educational and psychological interventions in school context, resulting from research and educational activities, are also included in the activities of the laboratory. In addition, the collaboration with Psychology Departments in Greece and abroad, the management of European and International Research Programs and the organization of seminars, scientific conferences and congresses, are also objectives of the laboratory.
